Will a round table look odd in a rectangular room?

Gently. A pale finish shows dirt less than you'd expect but marks more visibly if you scrub at it. Use a barely damp cloth and dry the surface straight afterwards, since standing water is the main risk to any pale wood. Avoid coloured cleaning sprays and anything oil-based, both of which can tint a whitewash over time.

Does a round dining table in wood work with a bench?

Not really. A bench needs a straight edge to sit along, so against a curved top it leaves gaps at both ends and never tucks away neatly. If a bench is part of your plan for saving space, a rectangular table is the better shape. Individual chairs are the natural pairing for a round table.
