What are the biggest 2027 trends for our homes? From richer woods and retro-inspired furniture to sculptural curves, clever storage and warmer colour palettes, the interior trends shaping 2027 are all about creating spaces with more character, comfort and personality. Here are the seven trends I think we’ll be seeing much more of over the year ahead, plus my tips for styling them at home.

In 2026, we saw nostalgia creeping back into our interiors through retro colours and patterns, Mid-Century influences, vintage-inspired furniture and warmer, nature-led spaces. For 2027, I think we’ll take this even further, moving away from picture-perfect minimalism and short-lived micro-trends in favour of homes that feel collected, comfortable and genuinely personal.

There’s a practical side to this shift, too. We want furniture to earn its place, with timeless materials, multifunctional designs and pieces we’ll still love in years to come. For me, character is really at the heart of 2027 interiors: creating a home that works for you, tells your story and, most importantly, feels good to live in. Here are the seven interior trends I think will help us do exactly that.

1. Adaptive homes: furniture that works harder

Functionality is going to be a huge consideration in 2027. As our homes become places to work, relax, entertain, eat and switch off, furniture needs to keep up. That means we’ll be looking for designs that stack, hide, transform or serve more than one purpose. Think nesting side tables you can pull out when friends come over, coffee tables and textured ottomans with hidden storage, display cabinets with useful drawers and consoles that can double as compact desks.

We’ll also get smarter about those overlooked corners of the home. An unused nook could become a breakfast spot, a little coffee station can make rushed mornings more enjoyable, while floor-to-ceiling storage can help one room fulfil several different roles. And practical doesn’t have to mean boring. Look out for multifunctional pieces in characterful walnut, oak and teak finishes, alongside rounded edges and unexpected touches of colour.

Laura’s styling tips

  • Make use of the whole wall. Combine open shelving with closed cupboards so you can hide everyday clutter while displaying books, glassware, ceramics, plants and meaningful objects.
  • Embrace nesting tables. They’re brilliant in smaller spaces because you can create extra surface space when you need it and tuck them neatly away afterwards.
  • Hide the tech. Closed media units and storage can help a living room feel calmer once you’ve finished watching TV for the evening.
  • Try the rule of three. When styling shelves, group elements such as stacked books, ceramics and one sculptural object to help the display feel considered without looking cluttered.

2. Soft architecture: curves get even bolder

Curved furniture certainly isn’t disappearing in 2027. If anything, it’s getting bigger, softer and much more sculptural. I like to think of this trend as soft architecture. Furniture starts to feel as though it has been sculpted rather than simply constructed, with chunky armchairs, pebble-shaped sofas, pill-shaped coffee tables and softly rounded corners bringing a more relaxed feel to our rooms. Even traditionally angular furniture is softening up. Look for rounded sideboards and bedside tables, alongside scalloped and beds with wavy headboards that add personality without relying on lots of extra decoration.

There’s an emotional element to this trend as well. Soft shapes, generous proportions and tactile surfaces naturally make a room feel more welcoming, which is exactly what many of us want from our homes right now.

Laura’s styling tips

  • Let one curve lead the room. Make a rounded accent chair or sculptural sofa your statement, then balance it with simpler, straighter furniture elsewhere.
  • Keep the colour palette tonal. Oatmeal, cream, mushroom and stone let interesting silhouettes take centre stage while still giving the room plenty of depth.
  • Soften your coffee table. Swapping a square design for an oval or rounded coffee table is an easy way to introduce the trend.
  • Layer tactile textures. Think an oversized knitted throw over a linen-look sofa with plump cushions. Texture instantly makes a room feel warmer and more luxurious.

3. Material contrast: mixing instead of matching

One of my favourite things about 2027 interiors is that we’re becoming less concerned with everything matching perfectly. Instead, materials are being mixed deliberately to create depth and interest. Walnut appears alongside glass, marble meets warm wood, brushed metals contrast with tactile upholstery and high-gloss details sit comfortably beside natural finishes.

It’s also a really effective way to give a space a more luxurious feel without filling it with expensive statement pieces. A marble-effect side table, glass-fronted walnut cabinet or coffee table combining stone and wood can introduce that high-end look without overwhelming the room. The key is making your choices feel intentional.

Laura’s styling tips

  • Stick to two or three main materials. You want a mix rather than a mish-mash. Repeating each material elsewhere in the room helps everything feel connected.
  • Pair warm finishes with cooler ones. Walnut and marble, oak and chrome, or rattan and glass all create beautiful contrast.
  • Use texture as a material in its own right. Carved, fluted or reeded wood can add interest to a sideboard or cabinet without introducing another pattern.

4. Retro refresh: nostalgic, not themed

Our love affair with nostalgia isn’t going anywhere, but in 2027 retro interiors will feel a little more refined. Rather than recreating a room from a particular decade, we’ll borrow the best bits. Mid-Century and 1970s influences will appear through tapered legs, rounded cabinets, curved wooden details and low-profile furniture, with heritage-inspired touches helping everything feel collected rather than overly coordinated.

I think smaller pieces are one of the easiest ways to try this trend. A vintage-inspired side table, statement sideboard, characterful cabinet or retro accent chair can completely change the feel of a room without turning your space into a time capsule.

Laura’s styling tips

  • Mix old and new. Pairing a genuine vintage find with newer retro-inspired furniture makes a space feel like it has developed naturally over time.
  • Look out for tubular details. Chrome chair frames and lamp bases bring a playful retro edge, while curved timber versions offer a warmer take.
  • Bring in 70s-inspired materials. Tan leather and rattan work beautifully alongside deeper woods.
  • Create a reading nook. Combine a low lounge chair, floor lamp and curved side table for a cosy corner that feels stylish but serves a real purpose.

5. Wood takes centre stage

Wood will be one of the hero materials of 2027, but there’s a noticeable change in the finishes we’re gravitating towards. Rather than very pale, blonde Scandi-style woods, we’re moving towards deeper walnut, rich oak and teak-inspired tones. These finishes immediately bring warmth and a sense of history into a room.

There’s also a greater appreciation for the character of the material itself. Visible grain, chunky silhouettes and carved, fluted or reeded fronts make furniture feel tactile and crafted rather than flawless and mass-produced. That’s really the appeal of wood for me. It doesn’t need to shout to make an impact, and its connection with nature brings an instant grounding quality to a room.

Laura’s styling tips

  • Don’t be afraid to mix woods. Keep their undertones similar, such as combining several warm woods, and the space can feel beautifully collected.
  • Create contrast with your flooring. A dark walnut sideboard or dining table can look particularly striking against a lighter floor.
  • Let the grain breathe. Keep styling relatively simple on statement wooden furniture so the texture and finish remain part of the design.

6. Heritage softs: fabrics with a fresh twist

Stripes, checks and geometric patterns are going to play a much bigger role in our soft furnishings. There’s a touch of classic English country-house style here, building on the Cottagecore influences we saw in 2026, but 2027's interpretation feels fresher and more playful.

For me, the secret is layering. Bouclé, linen, wool, velvet and tweed can all sit together beautifully when there’s a common colour palette running through the room. Add a stripe or check and suddenly a fairly simple space feels much more individual. It’s another example of interiors becoming more concerned with how a home feels. These are fabrics and textures that make you want to curl up, get comfortable and stay awhile.

Laura’s styling tips

  • Try contrast piping. A cream cushion edged in chocolate brown or green is a simple way to introduce a heritage-inspired detail.
  • Follow the stripe-check-plain formula. Combine one stripe, one check and one plain textile within a complementary palette.
  • Make your headboard the feature. A striped, scalloped or curved upholstered headboard can completely transform a bedroom.
  • Give retro shapes some pattern. A patterned fabric on a curved chair frame combines two of 2027's biggest ideas without feeling overly trend-led.

7. Grounded colours with bold pops

The colours we surround ourselves with can have a huge impact on how a room feels, and in 2027, our palettes will be all about warmth. Rich chocolate, mocha, tobacco, caramel, earthy mossy green and terracotta will sit alongside oatmeal, stone, putty and warm cream to create grounding spaces that feel cosy rather than flat.

Then comes the fun part: the accent colours. Deep oxblood and burgundy, earthy olive, ochre and vivid blues and greens can inject that sense of personality we're craving. And rather than scattering dozens of colourful accessories around a room, I think we'll become more confident about using one strong colour in a deliberate way. A coloured glass lamp, statement chair or lacquered piece of furniture can sometimes make more impact than a whole collection of smaller accessories.

Laura’s styling tips

  • Try colour drenching. A snug, study or other small room can look incredible with its walls, woodwork and ceiling painted in one rich shade such as mocha.
  • Use the 60-30-10 rule. Try roughly 60% warm neutral, 30% mid-tone colour such as caramel or olive and 10% bold accent.
  • Warm up your whites. Creams with yellow or pink undertones will complement warm wooden furniture better than cooler, clinical whites.
  • Choose one confident accent. Bring in electric blue or vivid green through a statement bedframe, table or lamp rather than lots of individual accessories.

Making 2027 interior trends your own

The thing I love most about the direction interiors are taking in 2027 is that there isn’t one prescriptive ‘look’ you need to recreate. In fact, pushing back against sameness is the whole point. Whether you love deep walnut furniture and retro curves, prefer creamy neutrals and oversized upholstery, or simply want a coffee table that cleverly hides the everyday clutter, these trends are ultimately about creating a home that works for the people living in it.

Comfort, craftsmanship, personality and practicality can all coexist. And your home doesn’t need to be completely redesigned to embrace them. Start with one piece you genuinely love. Mix it with things you’ve owned for years. Add something useful, something tactile and perhaps something slightly unexpected. Shop our on-trend collections to find the perfect new addition for your home.
