Retro Revival Interior Trends For A Blast From The Past

Retro Revival Interior Trends For A Blast From The Past

9th Apr 2025

Posted by Alice Ewens on 9th Apr 2025

If you're looking to infuse your home with a touch of nostalgia, you're in the right place. Let's dive into some fabulous trends and explore how you can incorporate them into your space without breaking the bank.

Revisiting design and fashion from years gone by is certainly not a new thing, and nostalgic interiors have been trending for a while, but I’m seeing a bit of a wave of it recently. Weaving vintage and retro nods into newer trends creates a stylish ‘new-stalgia’ vibe that I am so here for – the charms of yesteryear meeting functionality and tech advances of today. So, I thought I’d take a deeper look into the what’s, the why’s and the how’s of Retro Revival Décor, from gilded glam to jazz deco decadence and some 50s Hollywood summer vibes.

Why Vintage and Retro Looks Are Big In 2025 Interior Design

Nostalgia is playing a significant role in interior design in 2025 because it offers a comforting escape from the fast-paced, technology-driven world we live in. As we seek to create spaces that feel personal and meaningful, we’re turning to design elements that bring up fond memories and feel familiar. Retro styles, with their distinctive charm and character, help us connect with the past while expressing individuality. Not to mention, fashion and design has always been cyclical. We take things that worked well and make them new again. This blend of nostalgia and modernity, especially in interiors, creates a unique and inviting atmosphere that really resonates.

Gold Frame Mirrors For That Gilded Glam Look

Nothing says elegance quite like a gilded mirror. These beauties can instantly elevate any room, adding a touch of glamour and sophistication. A gold mirror speaks to a number of vintage looks, from the golden age of Hollywood (which ties to the 1920s deco look) to the big 2025 rococo renaissance look. An ornate and decorative gold framed mirror can fit into various décor styles, from traditional to contemporary, so it’s no surprise these statement gold framed mirrors are having a resurgence.

How To Style A Gilded Frame For A More Accessible & Everyday Look

Look for ornate frames with intricate details in gold, brass or warm metallics. I really like to add a big statement gilded mirror to a more modern minimalist room, to mix things up a bit. You can also achieve a similar effect with ornate picture frames. We’ve got a great selection of large statement gold framed mirrors. Alternatively, get your thrift on and hunt for vintage mirrors at second hand shops or flea markets. You can always spruce up a frame that’s past its heyday with some gold (or gold-effect) leaf gilding. This is surprisingly easy to do (there are heaps of tutorials on line) and a fun crafty project.

Our Hima Moroccan gold frame statement mirror shown here in a bright, minimalist space illustrates how combining sleek and simple room décor with an ornate and large gold framed mirror elevates the space by adding a glam focal point.

Art Deco Jazz Retro Revival

The Art Deco design era was all about bold geometric patterns, luxurious materials, and a sense of opulence. People are drawn to the luxurious and glamorous elements of Art Deco. It also ties well with other big trends, like green interiors – the very-on-trend green velvet sofa looks stunning with gold geometric accents. The revival of Art Deco is, I think, driven by a desire for glamour and sophistication, reminiscent of the roaring twenties.

How To Style Art Deco Décor For A More Accessible & Everyday Look

To bring that Gatsby glam style into your home, think about incorporating 'lofi lighting' and mood lighting to create that perfect jazz club ambiance. Edison bulbs can work wonders. Incorporate a dark and moody palette (again, another big 2025 trend in its own right): black, gold, silver, deep blues, and emerald greens. Glossy finishes, mirrored surfaces, and plush fabrics like velvet also work well for this look. Look for bold, geometric furniture or décor items. A statement lamp or a piece of wall art can set the tone without overwhelming the space.

Our Hana bed in deep green fabric sports pyramid-inspired wings and lots of straight lines. Paired here with our black and gold Poppy wall lights and Urbi black and glass-paneled bedside tables, this bedroom gives Deco vibes without being too over the top.

Revisiting Mid Century Modern Furniture

Mid-century modern furniture is characterized by clean lines, organic curves, and a focus on functionality. It's a timeless style that blends seamlessly with modern décor. The resurgence of mid-century modern furniture and design is down to its simplicity, functionality, and the way it complements contemporary interiors. Mid century modern pieces work really well as part of warm neutrals and Scandi-inspired wood décor schemes.

How To Incorporate Mid Century Moden Design For An Everyday Look

Go for an earthy palette like olive green, mustard yellow, and burnt orange, along with neutrals like white, black, and grey. Natural wood, leather, and simple fabrics are a key part of this style. We’ve got some fab mid-century modern inspired pieces – check out our Bisset wood and white storage range for some living room retro-inspired storage. Alternatively, check out second-hand shops or online marketplaces for authentic mid-century pieces. You can often find great deals on items that just need a little TLC.

70s Revival Interiors

The 70s are back, baby! Think bold colours, funky patterns, and a whole lot of personality. This trend is all about having fun and embracing the eclectic. The revival of 70s décor is driven by a love for bold, expressive styles and a sense of nostalgia for the vibrant decade. It ties in well with the orange velvet sofa trend that I am absolutley loving.

Muted but bold contrasting colours such as mustard yellows, burnt oranges, teals and browns will give that 70s vibe. Don't be afraid to mix patterns and colours. The 70s were all about breaking the rules, so let your creativity run wild. Look for vintage décor items like lava lamps, macramé wall hangings, and shag rugs. These pieces can add a playful touch to your space.

50s Inspired Kitsch Gardens

I’m definitely seeing more outdoor spaces incorporating colours and styles that have a 1950s throwback vibe, where playful decor and vibrant colours create a whimsical outdoor retreat. This 50s inspired garden furniture trend is all about vintage sun-drenched spaces that embrace the quirky and the fun with a nod to the past. Think Lana Del Rey old Hollywood L.A with a twist of Wes Anderson aesthetics.

How To Incorporate Retro 1950s Outdoor Pieces For An Everyday Look

Pastel garden furniture shades and retro shapes combined with wicker garden pieces will create a quirky 1950s look to your outdoor space. Go for retro-style furniture with bold colours and patterns. You can also add in some vintage garden ornaments like flamingos and gnomes (which can often be found at thrift stores or online marketplaces). Palm trees and hibiscus will really nail that pastel-glam 50s summer look.

Our new Corisca range of retro inspired outdoor deckchairs and sun loungers really tap into this look! Check out our full range of rattan garden furniture to mix and match with coloured pieces.
