How To Create The Perfect Easter Tablescape Using The 30:60:10 Rule

26th Mar 2025

Posted by Alice Ewens on 26th Mar 2025

This week I show you how to use the timeless 30:60:10 design rule to absolutely nail the perfect Easter tablescape.

Easter is, for many, a time to gather with friends and family with the dining table often being the focal point. Us Brits are keen to put on a bit of show and tablescaping is the perfect way to wow guests by creating a visual landscape without having to cost a fortune! We’ve talked about the 60:30:10 rule on the blog before, but I want to show you how you can take an interior design rule and use it to create a showstopping Easter tablescape, so I’ve got some ideas and inspiration for creating a gorgeous special occasion table.

What is the 60 30 10 Rule And Why Is It Great For Tablescaping?

The 60:30:10 rule is a staple in the interior design rule book. It’s about layering colours to create depth and dimension without overwhelming your space. Select three colours that work well together and dress your space with 60% of the space in one colour, 30% of the space in your second colour choice, and 10% of your final accent colour to tie it all together. This approach is an excellent way to style a tablescape; it helps you select a cohesive palette that avoids slipping into a garish mess of spring colours. You can then layer this through fabrics, tableware and accessories to create an eye-catching centrepiece that’ll definitely wow your dinner guests!

Define Your Easter Tablescape Aesthetic

Do you want to go for bold maximalism or rustic farmhouse? Maybe something sleek and super-modern? Or something cute and whimsical? Decide on the look you want to achieve and take stock of what items you’ve already got that might fit to bill.

Pick Your Easter Table Décor Palette

Choose 3 colours that look great together and suit your aesthetic vibe. Select one shade for your base colour to form your 60% of the colour landscape.

Pick one shade which will form your 30% of the colour landscape.

Pick one shade to form your 10% of the colour landscape. Your 10% shade should be the icing on the cake; a little dusting of it here and there to bring it all together.

You can either go for a dark base, mid-tone 30% and a light 10% palette, or switch things up and go light and airy base, bolder mid-tone and darker accents.

My Personal Picks For An On-Trend Easter Table Look

I’d go for a soft cream, pale green and gold palette for Easter. The neutral cream and green keep things feeling really fresh and spring-like, and the gold makes it feel fancy. So, I’d go for a simple neutral – either a pale light wood table or linen tablecloth - for my base and mirror it through my tableware and some candles. I’d then use a light green for my 30% colour, through foliage, candles and eggs. I’d bring it all together with gold for my 10% accents, through crockery and a few gold accessories. I wouldn’t want too much gold, or it will start to look gaudy. It’s also a colour palette I can revisit and reuse for other special occasions – a darker green with less eggs and more baubles would make this work really well for Christmas, too!

Bold Maximalist Easter Table Inspiration

Maximalism is still trending in 2025 and tablescaping is a great way to dabble without committing to huge room makeovers. For a maximalist tablescape, think ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’. You want there to be lots of details that all form part of your wider theme. A darker shade as your 60% base creates depth and richness. You could go for a moody and dark vibe, with a forest green base, light green 30% and purple 10%. Or, a bold 30% splash of colour, like a shocking pink, against a pastel green base with a pale blue top accent will stand out. For finishing touches, use lass dishes filled with coloured eggs (including the chocolate variety!), vintage teacups, macarons and gold-foiled sweet treats.

Sleek And Chic Super Modern Easter Table Inspiration

If high contrast and big drama is your thing, you can go for a black, white and neutral look with a dark 60% (perhaps with a dark wood dining table base), white 30% and beige 10% accents for something really striking. The tonal difference here between light and dark means you don’t even need to go big with the decorations and accessories to really make a statement – your colour palette is doing all the work. Don’t forget your dining chairs can form part of your colour scheme! Velvet dining chairs will always add that extra detail to a bolder décor look.

A Simple And Sweet Easter Tablescape

You don’t have to go all out to achieve something that looks fantastic. A table runner or even some folded up tulle with an Easter garland or some bunny ornaments from somewhere like The Range, and some fresh flowers can go a long way. A sweet, simple and budget-accessible option that will feel like a banquet table.

A Warm Neutrals Easter Table

If warm neutrals are your vibe, you can go for three neutral shades, like a dark brown base, taupe mid shade and cream accent shade. This can create a gorgeous rustic farmhouse look. Alternatively a light cream 60%, blush pink 30% and gold 10% accents can look really sweet and fresh but still very farmhouse chic. Use scavenged items like feathers, twigs, dried flowers and grasses, too!

Accents And Accessories Make A Statement

Your colour palette can show up across multiple textures and finishing touches. For example, match foliage or your table runner to your dinner plates. Match placemats to the flowers. Add gold accents through cutlery, a few gold bunnies or some coloured eggs and twigs brushed with some gold paint. If you’re feeling crafty, try painting your own hollowed and drained eggshells. Then, decorate with food colouring in water for a soft watercolour look or go bold with acrylic paint in your chosen colours.
