We’ve collaborated with the very fabulous @athome_withsammi - home Instagrammer and Furniturebox customer – to bring you a step-by-step guide on creating the perfect Christmas tablescape.

When Sammi tagged us in a stunning photo of one of our Cotswold oak and black solid wood dining tables decked out with a gorgeous Halloween autumnal tablescape, we reached out to see if she fancied showing us how to work the magic for some festive dining table décor. Check out Sammi’s tips and beautiful photos below!

Christmas Tablescaping With Sammi

Christmas dinner is an occasion that we all look forward to each year. Going that extra mile with the decor, can be what turns your average sunday dinner into a magical christmas meal. It doesn't have to be expensive, use what you have round the house, make things, get creative. Obviously, you can buy the new shiny things, but you don’t have to break the bank.

Don’t forget the wise words "less is more".

Festive Tablescape Inspiration

Before you start to create your table set up, you must think about your theme, colour, and the feeling you want to create. This year I have decided to go for a neutral, gold, rustic theme. Think, gold candle sticks and cutlery, ribbons, greenery, and napkins folded like Christmas trees. You can find plenty of inspiration on Pinterest or Instagram if you find yourself stuck.

I don’t know if your house is like mine, but the table is normally a place where all the school bags, paperwork and Lego end up. So it’s nice to make these occasions extra special. I love being able to let my creativity flow, and go that extra mile for Christmas.

Step By Step Christmas Dining Tablescape

1 Gather Your Décor

Firstly, lay everything out that you want to use, so you can see what you are working with. Areas you want to pay attention to are, textures, lighting and colours. Your centrepiece is the piece de resistance of your table, this eye-catching and beautiful feature with take centre stage, so it should be something that has the wow factor!

2 Create Layers

I like to start with a table runner, and placemats - adding layers creates a visual interest and a great starting point. Next add your greenery. I’m adding a faux garland to the centre of the table, which I am then decorating with bows, pine cones and baubles. Also, can’t forget the fairy lights!!! Wrap these around your garland.

3 Add Height

Add height to your centrepiece, using tall candle sticks. Just make sure that it’s easy to see through, so it’s not a complete conversation killer.

4 Festive Tableware

We can’t forget the plates and cutlery. I layered the plates on the rattan placemats, with gorgeous rustic gold cutlery, and even a napkin, which I have shaped like a tree. There are so many ways that you can present your napkins. Napkin rings, wrapping them in twine, or if you’re feeling fancy like me – folding them into the shape of trees.

I have used these gorgeous flutes that I had in the cupboard, just added some ribbon bows to them, to make them look even more fancy.

5 Finishing Touches

Don’t forget the crackers – if this is your kind of thing. These could be great to personalise, so they can be used as name cards.

Although this year, I have opted for making my own name tags using air dry clay. It’s lovely to give your table a personal touch. And great thing is, your guests can take these home and use them as a tree decoration.

6 Soft Mood Lighting Makes It Magical

I am not a great fan of overhead lighting, so make sure you pay attention to the lighting that will add a glow to your Christmas table scape. You can never have too many candles and fairy lights – it is Christmas after all.

And here's the finished look:

Step by Step Christmas Coffee Table Décor

Who says tablescapes are just for dining tables?! I wanted to create a little magic on my coffee table – this is Furniturebox’s Penrose black round wood pedestal coffee table.

1 Get Your Base Right

I started off by placing my base, and adding this gorgeous faux Christmas tree. I wanted to give the look different heights.

2 Create A Sweet Festive Scene

And then added my ceramic houses. Why is it white ceramic houses just make you feel so Christmassy?

3 Wooden Trinkets Add To That Scandinavian Christmas Vibe

I then added in some little wooden trinkets – and of course more holders for candles.

4 Add Some Greenery To The Scene

These gorgeous little bottle brush Christmas trees, are a great way of adding some greenery to your table.

5 Make It Sparkle

Simple and easy to create, but it’s so effective – especially when all the candles are lit. Perfect for when you snuggle up and watch those christmas movies.

Budget Friendly Hacks For Your Christmas Tablescape

Air dry clay is a quick and cost-effective way to make personalised place settings for your table. They can be purchased on amazon – and it’s also a great and fun family activity to do.

You can also use things that you already have, such as champagne flutes/wine glasses, and make them even more special for Christmas by adding ribbon bows.
